Cat show headed to Lawrence

Kitties will be strutting their stuff this weekend at the American Cat Fanciers cat show.

Those who attend the show, which has been held in Lawrence the past several years, can expect to see as many as 20 to 30 distinct breeds of cats competing in four categories: kitten, household pet, champion and alter.

In addition to the competition, there will be raffles and costume contests.

ACFA, which originated in 1955 and has grown to be one of the largest cat fancy organizations in the U.S., is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

The show runs 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 21st and Harper. Admission is $5 for adults and $4 for seniors and children.
