Raiders hold off Topeka 400, 3-2

? Lawrence’s Raiders stayed perfect on the season by tripping Topeka 400, 3-2, Thursday at Topeka Seaman’s field.

Matt Wingert and Grant Meisenheimer scattered four hits and combined for the pitching victory for the Raiders (4-0).

Tyler Knight went 3-for-4, while Brian Heere, Brett Lisher and Will Falk each went 2-for-4. Lisher and Falk had RBIs.

Lisher’s single scored Jake Hoover with the winning run.

“It was a really clean game. It lasted two hours with aluminum bats. Both pitchers were around the strike zone,” Raiders coach Kevin Tucker said. “We came on in the sixth inning (scoring two runs).

“Wingert was around the strike zone early and our defense came up with a double play in the fifth. They played good defense behind him, and Meisenheimer pitched well for the save.”

The Raiders today will meet Lincoln, Neb., at 10 a.m. and Cherry Creek, Colo., at 4 p.m. at the Manhattan Tournament.

“It’s a great start out of the gates,” Tucker said. “We look forward to seeing some guys play this weekend and hopefully get better.”
