Muggy, damp start to the day

Lawrence is in for a damp, muggy morning. But the severe weather will stay out of the area today, says Tim Reith, 6News meteorologist.

“We’re just going to have a few showers to deal with,” Reith said. “Today we are in no risk for severe weather. We might see an isolated thunderstorm.”

At 8:15 a.m., the temperature was 70 degrees, with south to southeast 10-mph winds and overcast skies.

“It is kind of muggy outside with a humidity of 71 percent,” Reith said.

Lawrence’s high today will be 86, with south winds 12 to 18 mph. The average high for this date is 84. The record high for this date is 100 degrees, set back in 1934.

Lawrence won’t see much sunshine until the clouds start to break up in the afternoon, Reith said.

“We do have a slight chance of an isolated thunderstorm late this afternoon,” he said.

Overnight, the temperature will fall to 68 by early Friday morning, with the possibility of some isolated thunderstorms, he said.

Friday will also be warm and muggy, with the high reaching 88 degrees and south winds 10 to 15 mph. Reith said there’s a chance for rain in the late afternoon and early evening.

Saturday’s morning low will be 72, with the high reaching 87 and the possibility of rain Saturday night into Sunday morning.
