Lasting design

School district officials should make sure the expansion of Southwest Junior High will be both beautiful and functional for many years to come.

The first design schematics for the expansion of Southwest Junior High School have been made public, and the community hopes the project will be a big success in every respect.

Success will mean creating an ideal learning and teaching environment that will serve teachers and students for many years. That would mean taxpayers also are getting good value for their money.

A rendering of the building that appeared in Wednesday’s Journal-World showed a project with many separate rooftops, roof levels and corners, all of which may add to the construction costs. Also, as any homeowner will attest, the greater the number of roof lines, levels, seams and angles, the greater the chances for leaks.

It is hoped this will not be the case with the new Southwest Junior High and that school children, teachers, parents, taxpayers and architects all will be pleased with the final product.
