East Hills workers to air concerns about K-10

Kansas Department of Transportation leaders today will listen to concerns that workers at the East Hills Business Park have about a stretch of Kansas Highway 10 just east of the Lawrence city limits.

KDOT representatives will meet at 9:30 a.m. today at Amarr Garage Door, 3800 Greenway Circle, to discuss concerns about several accidents that have occurred on the state highway that runs past the business park.

Representatives from all the businesses in the area, along with city officials, have been invited to the meeting.

Pantries hope national campaign will bring food

Today is the National Day of Hunger and Douglas County food pantries and hot meals programs are hoping people will make a special effort to donate food items.

“I know we are extremely low,” said Jeanette Collier, coordinator at the Douglas County ECKAN office, 1 Riverfront Plaza.

Collier said all pantries and agencies were low on food items because the number of people locally who need food is increasing. The food stocks are low despite two major food drives over the past two months conducted by U.S. Postal Service workers and Boys Scouts, she said. No more food drives are scheduled until fall, she said.

“It’s kind of a do-or-die situation,” Collier said.

Bremby previously was Lawrence’s assistant city manager, and the associate director of the Work Group on Health Promotion and Community Development at Kansas University.
