4-H and FCE News

The May 9 meeting of the Lone Star 4-H Club was called to order by Grant Metsker, president. Leslie Queen led the flag salute. Members answered roll call by naming their least favorite subject in school. Minutes of the previous meeting were read by Libby Queen, secretary.

Mary Berg thanked everyone who helped at the swap meet. She reported that fair books would be available at the June meeting. Fair entries are due to the Extension office by June 30.

Christine Caffey gave a current event talk about the evolution hearings. The club recognized high school graduates Marla Metsker and Nicole Reiske.

The next meeting will be June 13 at the Lone Star Church. It will be conducted by the junior officers.

The Stull Busy Beavers 4-H Club met April 11. The meeting was called to order by Ashley Lesser and run by the junior officers. Members answered roll call by naming their favorite precious gem. The club decided to go to the Ronald McDonald House in Topeka on April 17 for the educational tour. A club picture was taken outside the church. Josh Lesser and Megan Barber shared information about 4-H Camp at Rock Springs 4-H Center.

India Family and Community Education unit will meet at 1:15 p.m. Thursday at the home of Wilma Stone. Co-hostess will be Dorothy Kerns. The lesson will be “Enhancing Your Relationship.”

Douglas County Family and Community Education, in cooperation with K-State Research & Extension Family and Consumer Sciences, is offering a program, “Old Tyme Games and Activities” at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the Deal Six Auditorium at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, 2110 Harper St. The program will be given by Kim Davis, county 4-H agent.

The Sunny Valley Family and Community Education unit will have its annual Sarcoxie Township potluck supper at 6 p.m. today at Sunnyside School. For more information, call 843-6952.
