July temperatures making a return

After a few days of cool weather, more July-like temperatures return to the Lawrence area today, with mostly sunny skies and highs in the 90s through the weekend.

“It does look like today is going to be a fantastic day,” said Tim Reith, 6News meteorologist. “What more could you ask for, heading into the weekend?”

At 8:15 a.m., the temperature was 63 degrees, the humidity was 93 percent and winds were from the east at 3 mph.

By noon, the temperature is expected to rise to 77 degrees, then to 86 by 4 p.m. and to 88 by the end of the afternoon, Reith said. The average high for this date is 91 degrees, while the average low is 70.

Lawrence might get some cloudy skies early in the day, but plenty of sunshine is in store for the afternoon. Winds will be out of the south 8 to 12 mph, gusting to 20 mph.

Overnight, skies will be clear and the temperature will fall to 62 degrees by early Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon’s high will be 91 degrees.

Sunday’s morning low will be 64 with Sunday’s afternoon high reaching 92 degrees.
