Olathe ? Jeremiah Creswell, the man suspected of stabbing then-Kansas University basketball player J.R. Giddens, pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges that he threatened his uncle and mother in a separate incident last month.

Creswell, 24, admitted pull-ing a knife on his uncle on a Sunday morning in his uncle’s kitchen and threatening to kill his mother if police were called.

Police records indicated the uncle, Randall Wilson, fled the Olathe residence when Creswell “wasn’t looking.” Creswell’s mother, Beverly Creswell, later escaped.

After police arrived, Creswell was arrested without incident. His sentencing is set for Sept. 6.

Johnson County Judge Pro Tem Bruce Beye ordered a review of Creswell’s criminal record and for Cresswell to undergo psychological testing.

Beye said he expected Creswell’s sentence to be between 11 and 18 months in state prison.

Dressed in a jail-issued, blue-and-white-striped pants and shirt, Creswell showed no emotion during the 20-minute hearing.

His only comments were “Yes, your honor” and “No, your honor.”

Creswell’s criminal record is known to include prior convictions for aggravated battery and possession of cocaine with intent to sell in Shawnee County. His juvenile record includes an incident involving a firearm.

Prosecutor Jacqueline Spradling said Creswell was not tested for drugs after the altercation at his uncle’s residence.

Creswell’s guilty plea Wednesday was unrelated to the May 19 brawl outside the Moon Bar, 821 Iowa, during which Giddens was stabbed in the right calf. Creswell has told Lawrence police he stabbed Giddens and four other men in self-defense. The case remains under investigation.

Earlier this month, Giddens transferred to the University of New Mexico. Since his June 12 arrest in Olathe, Creswell has been in the Johnson County Adult Detention Center, unable to post his $50,000 court-ordered bond.

“My client has no money and no job,” said David Magariel, Creswell’s court-appointed attorney.
