Macklen Mayse, left, president of the Commission on the Status of Women, congratulates Polly Bales on her induction into the Kansas University Women's Hall of Fame. Bales, former president of the KU School of Fine Arts, was honored during a ceremony April 21 in the Ballroom of the Kansas Union. The Bales Organ Recital Hall bears her name.

From left, Martin Jones, Wes Seyler and Gene Van Hoesen have played significant roles in the Clinton Park bluebird trail. The Kaw Valley Bluebird Assn. dedicated a tree to Seyler on June 23. Seyler and the late Tom Rodhouse started the bluebird restoration project in 1978. Jones and Van Hoesen have taken leadership roles in the project in recent years. Records were not kept until 1987, but since then, more than 5,000 bluebirds have been fledged at the park.

Sheryl Wozniak, left, committee member of the Commission on the Status of Women, introduces Beverly Smith Billings, Kansas University Women's Hall of Fame inductee. Smith Billings, president of Alvamar Inc. and Alvamar Realty Inc., was recognized during a Women's Recognition ceremony April 21 in the Ballroom of the Kansas Union. The KU alumna has distinguished herself through her business career and volunteer works.

Jessica Kennedy, left, committee member of the Commission on the Status of Women, congratulates Dr. Linda Warren on her induction into the Kansas University Women's Hall of Fame. Warren, the first woman to serve as president of the Kansas Medical Society, was recognized during the Women's Recognition ceremony on April 21 in the Ballroom of the Kansas Union. Warren received her bachelor's and medical degrees from KU. The recognition is sponsored by the Commission on the Status of Women and the Emily Taylor Women's Resource Center, both at KU.

Stanton, a senior research scientist at the University of California, was inducted into the Kansas University Women's Hall of Fame. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from KU in 1977.

The 4-H'ers were recognized as scholarship winners during the Emerald Circle Banquet June 2 in Manhattan. Simons, president of Newspapers Division of The World Company, is a trustee of the Kansas 4-H Foundation.

Don Dunn, left, and Margaret Thorp were honored June 17 as Lions of the Year by the Lawrence Noon Lions Club at the Hereford House. Dunn is president, and Thorp is treasurer.
