Kansas University will have 10 athletic-department administrators earning six-figure salaries during the 2005-2006 fiscal year.

Athletic director Lew Perkins tops the list with a salary of $438,900, according to information provided by the athletic department. Perkins’ salary is paid partly by the KU Athletic Corp. ($266,412) and partly by the state ($172,488).

When Perkins was hired in July of 2003, his salary was $400,000. Last year, he earned $420,000. Perkins also is paid at least $100,000 from a multimedia contract. His other perks include two automobiles, membership in two country clubs and two season tickets to men’s basketball games.

Senior associate AD Larry Keating received the biggest pay raise, according to the information provided by KU.

Keating’s salary has climbed from $152,250 to $183,000, a raise of more than $30,000.

Third on the salary chart among Perkins’ senior staff is John Hadl, associate AD for major gifts, at $181,875. That’s a modest raise from the $175,000 the former KU football All-American made last year, but Hadl had been awarded a $55,000 raise last year.

Jim Marchiony, associate AD for external affairs, is the fourth-highest-paid among Perkins’ cadre at $164,065.

Fifth on the list is Kelly Mehrtens, the department’s senior woman administrator. She now makes $161,871

The salaries of the other five senior staffers are:
