Softball pitcher signs

Valerie George, a right-handed pitcher from Tucson, Ariz., has signed a softball letter of intent with Kansas University.

“Valerie is a kid who went unnoticed because she’s not a power pitcher,” KU coach Tracy Bunge said. “She’s 5-4 and slender. She doesn’t have a typical pitcher’s physique, but she has a good rise ball, an extremely good change-up, and her ball moves.”

George was named the classes 4A-5A Arizona Player of the Year as a senior after leading her Sabino High team to the Class 4A state title. She posted a 28-0 record, 0.31 earned-run average and led Sabino (33-1) to a No. 6 national prep ranking.
