¢ Manning Camp: Openings are available in next week’s Danny Manning Basketball Camp at Sport 2 Sport. Monday through Friday sessions for second through fifth graders will be mornings and sessions for fifth through eighth graders will be afternoons. ¢ SWJH Girls Basketball: Girls basketball camp at Southwest Junior High will be from 9:30 a.m. to noon July 25-29. Girls in grades 6-9 are eligible. For information, call David Schneider at 760-3261.

¢ Roberts Low: Conrad Roberts fired a one-under-par 71 at Sunday’s Jayhawk Golf Club tournament at Alvamar. Mike Naegele was next with a 75 and Tom Dennis carded a 76. In net scoring, Ted Johnson was low with a 67. Tim Grant, Scot Tenpenny and Ray Mendoza all recorded 68s.

¢ Red Dog Run: Mail-in registrations are due Friday for the Red Dog Run, a 4.2-mile event that will start July 30 at the Lied Center. Also scheduled is a mile fun run/walk. For information, call Dani Garcia at 766-2999 or e-mail danielle229@msn.com.

¢ Governor’s Cup Gold: Lawrence’s Kevin Slocum, Stacy Riggins and Frances Breslauer, and Baldwin’s Sarah Harris earned age-group gold medals in the Sunflower State Games Governor’s Cup 5K Saturday in Topeka. Silver medals went to Kit Harris of Baldwin and Teri Powers of Lawrence. Third-places were garnered by Lawrence’s Mike Neal, Tom Betchel and Christina Terry. In the SSG 10K, age-group golds went to Lawrence’s Brian Flatt, Terry Slocum, Gene Wee and Rhonda Levaldo. Amy McDaniel earned a silver and Mahlon Strahm, Nick Prewett and Katy Hooper captured bronzes.

¢ KVSA Registration: Kaw Valley Soccer Association is taking registrations for fall and spring. Youths ages 4 to 19 are eligible. Fall season will start Aug. 27. For information, go to www.kawvalleysoccer.com.

¢ Baldwin Open: The Baldwin Open, an 18-hole sand greens golf tournament, will be Aug. 7. Lunch is included in the $40 entry fee. For information, call 594-3169.

¢ Mona Winner: Steve Mona, head of the Lawrence-based Golf Course Superintendents Assn., was a member of the team that shot 53 to win a Pro-Am event at the John Deere Classic. One of his teammates was 15-year-old sensation Michelle Wie.

¢ City Divers Advance: Logan Kline and Kelly Marx of Team Jayhawk Diving Club earned second places at a qualifying meet last weekend in Oklahoma City and advanced to the U.S. Diving Junior Nationals in North Carolina. Kline was runner-up on the girls 14-15 one-meter board, and Marx was second on the boys 16-18 three-meter. The club’s Andy Krantz also qualified for nationals in the boys 14-15 division.

¢ Towner Three Back: Alvamar Country Club pro Randy Towner carded a 72 and missed a berth in the U.S. Senior Open by three strokes during a qualifying round Monday at Kansas City’s Loch Lloyd Country Club. Jim White of Lincoln, Neb., was low with a 66. Harry Rudder of Jefferson City, Mo., and Ron Eilers of Lee’s Summit, Mo., tied for second by shooting 69s.

¢ Portela Leads Aquahawks: Chloe Portela earned six gold medals and Molly Albrecht had five golds to pace the Lawrence Aquahawks at the Roger Hill Invitational July 8-10 at LIAC. Alex Brunfeldt and Emma Reaney won four events apiece. Anthony Portela captured three golds and Ashley Robinson and Ben Sloan had two apiece. Aquahawks who won one gold were Morgan Flannigan, Gina Gnatzig, Mitch Moore, Alyssa Rudman, Stacey Rudman, Katie Swank and Lindsey Urbatchka.

¢ Reaney Shines in Wichita: Emma Reaney of the Lawrence Aquahawks won all nine events she entered in the girls U-12 division of the Air Capital Invitational in late June in Wichita. The Aquahawks’ Ashley Robinson earned four golds. Ben Sloan won two events. Molly Albrecht and Chloe Portela captured one event apiece.
