Thunderstorms moving through

Heat returning Wednesday

Enjoy the showers falling in the Lawrence area this morning — it’s going to be hot for the rest of the week, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“We have showers and thunderstorms to start the day, ” Schack said. “The sunshine returns in full force this afternoon.”

At 12:28 p.m., Lawrence was getting some light mist and it was 71 degrees. The city had recorded 0.43 of an inch of rain for the morning as of noon at Lawrence Municipal Airport.

After the storms push through, the sun will come out and temperatures will climb into the high 80s, she said. Today’s high is expected to be 87 by late this afternoon, she said.

The heat will return Wednesday. Wednesday morning’s temperature will start at 70 degrees, but will climb nearly 30 notches on the thermometer during the day.

“We don’t hit the 100-degree mark tomorrow, but I think we’re going to get close,” Schack said. She predicted Wednesday’s high will be 98.

Thursday morning’s temperature will be 71 degrees, with the high reaching 98 by Thursday afternoon, she said. Afternoon highs on Friday and Saturday will be 99 degrees, she said.
