Showers bypass Lawrence

If your lawn is looking parched and thirsty, you’ll have to turn on the sprinklers — Lawrence won’t get any more rain this week, says Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist.

“It looks like we’re pretty much done,” Sayers said this afternoon. Thunderstorms and showers passed through the area this morning without leaving much precipitation, he said.

Lawrence received about 0.03 of an inch at Lawrence Municipal Airport this morning. But most of the city received only a few splashes of raindrops this morning, he said.

“There’s no real significant chances of rainfall throughout the remainder this week,” Sayers said. “It will be continued dry weather.”

While the temperature was to hit only the high 80s today, it will return to the 90s on Tuesday afternoon and soar up into the upper 90s by Wednesday, he said.

At 3:10 p.m., Lawrence’s temperature was 87 and was expected to top out around 88 degrees by the end of the day.

Overnight, the low will drop to 67 by early Tuesday morning.

Tuesday’s high will be 94, under partly cloudy skies.

Wednesday’s morning low will be 69, with the high reaching 97 degrees Wednesday afternoon.
