Raiders roll past Ottawa, 21-0

? The Lawrence Raiders rolled, romped and routed past its competition in the opening round of the American Legion Zone tournament on Friday, walloping Ottawa, 21-0, in a game shortened to seven innings by the run rule.

A 22-hit attack and 14 runs in the first two innings was plenty, but it was complemented by solid pitching – the Raiders held Ottawa to just three hits.

“We started in the first and never let up,” Raiders coach Kevin Tucker said. “Our pitchers gave up three hits, and we live to play another day.”

The Raiders (28-6) were led by Brian Heere’s 5-for-6 performance, but had multiple-hit games from Matt Falk, Tyler Knight, Jake Hoover and Brett Lisher. Hoover picked up the win on the mound.

Lawrence will turn around and play Overland Park at 11 a.m. today.
