Kansas City, Mo. ? Tywanne Aldridge, a former Kansas University football player convicted in 2000 on federal drug and gun charges, may have his 13-year prison sentence reduced.

Aldridge is entitled to a new sentencing hearing because a U.S. Supreme Court order in January declared the federal sentencing guidelines unconstitutional, a federal appeals court ruled Wednesday.

Aldridge was sentenced to 13 years and one month for trying to buy two kilograms of cocaine from an undercover officer.

A Shawnee Mission West product, Aldridge played six games on special teams for the Jayhawks in 1999 before leaving the program. As a walk-on sophomore in 1998, he played in all 11 games.

He fled to Europe after his conviction, eventually playing professional football for the Barcelona Dragons. Authorities caught up to him in Spain.

Aldridge’s new hearing has not yet been scheduled.
