Slight chance of showers expected today

If you want to play it safe, you might carry an umbrella today.

“We can’t rule out a very isolated thundershower this afternoon,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

Lawrence will get a few mid and high clouds this morning. However, this afternoon and evening, cumulus clouds could build up enough to spark off a thunderstorm, she said.

The National Weather Service said there is a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms today and tonight.

At 8 a.m., the temperature was 70 degrees, the humidity was 88 percent, winds were north-northwest at 3 mph and skies were hazy, with visibility limited to one mile.

Most of the precipitation was staying off to the north and east of the Lawrence area, Schack said.

“I don’t think we see any precipitation for the first part of the day,” she said.

The temperature will hit 85 degrees by noon. Today’s high was expected to climb to 90 by late this afternoon, with hazy conditions through the day, Schack said.

Overnight, the temperature will drop to a low of 69 degrees, with the high climbing to 91 on Wednesday afternoon.

Thursday’s morning low will be 69, with Thursday’s afternoon high reaching 93 under partly cloudy skies.

“There’s no big changes as we head for the weekend — still in the mid 90s and still a lot of sunshine,” Schack said.
