Stephen P.H. Griffeth, serving with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Three at Port Hueneme, Calif., recently was promoted to the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class. He expects to be deployed to Iraq in August, supporting U.S. Marine troops.

He is the son of Stephen and Natalie Griffeth, rural Lawrence.
