Chris and Kristen Hase, Pratt, announce the birth of their son, Ian Barrett Hase, born June 23, 2005, at Pratt Regional Medical Center.
Grandparents are Mary and Dale Mitchell, Baldwin, and Dale and Vicki Hase, Americus.
Great-grandparents are Mary Gordon, Lawrence, and Luther and Vivian Hase, Emporia.
¢ Patrick and Dana Schlemmer, Overland Park, announce the birth of their daughters, Lauren Elizabeth and Erika Elaine, born May 5, 2005, at Menorah Medical Center. Erika and Lauren have a brother, Aaron. Grandparents are Betty and Steve Markley, Lawrence, and Elaine and George Schlemmer, Overland Park.
¢ Ryan Bodensteiner, Lawrence, made the dean’s list during the spring semester at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln by earning a 4.0 grade-point average. Philip Garito and Luke Lackrone, both of Lawrence, made the honor roll by receiving at least a 3.5 GPA.
¢ Kirby Beneventi and Ryan Rowland, both of Lawrence, made the dean’s honor roll at Garden City Community College by receiving between a 3.2 and 3.99 grade-point average.
¢ Lynne Sauer, a 2005 graduate of Lawrence High School, is the recipient of a $10,000 Walton Family Foundation Scholarship for children of Wal-Mart employees. Lynne is the daughter of Ted and Gay Sauer and plans to attend Southwest Missouri State University and major in education. Ted Sauer is employed by the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Ottawa.
¢ Cuyler Halpin, a Lawrence High School graduate, made the dean’s list during the spring semester at the University of Dubuque, Dubuque, Iowa, by earning at least a 3.5 grade-point average.
¢ McLouth High School had an academic banquet June 28. ¢ Amy Armstrong, a Lawrence High School graduate, has graduated from Lake Forest College, Lake Forest, Ill., with a Bachelor of Arts degree in international relations and politics. She earned honors in her politics major and was awarded distinction for her senior thesis, “The Universal Rights of the Child: Brazil, Sierra Leone, Thailand and Tanzania.
¢ Five Lawrence residents were among the 65 teens participating in a Rotary Youth Leadership Awards experience June 5-11 at Washburn University in Topeka. Participants were: Benjamin Bell and Ellery Crews, of Free State High School; and Michael Brock, Carly Sakamura and Baoqing Zhou, of Lawrence High School.
The seminar is an intensive training program for community youth leaders and is sponsored by Rotary international and the Washburn University Institute for the Study and Practice of Leadership.
Participants were selected for their leadership potential and were sponsored by Rotary Clubs.
¢ Ben Johnson, a 2005 graduate of Lawrence High School, was named this year’s recipient of the Steve Harper Scholarship. Ben is serving as an intern for the Student Conservation Assn. and is working with a team of students in northern California building a trail to a newly discovered waterfall. Ben plans to pursue an environmental science degree after his internship and will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Harper was a longtime outdoor writer and photographer for The Wichita Eagle.
¢ Courtenay De Hoff, Tonganoxie, will exhibit Angus cattle at the 2005 National Junior Angus Show July 17-23 at the National Western Complex in Denver.
¢ Benjamin Figard, Lawrence, received a master’s degree in chemistry from Oregon State University. Commencement ceremonies were June 12 in Corvallis.
¢ Kenna Baird, Lawrence, and Christina Mignot, Wellsville, received L.A. Hollinger, M.D. Scholarships from the Baptist-Trinity Lutheran Legacy Foundation at an awards dinner June 21. Baird and Mignot graduated from Johnson County Community College’s Respiratory Care Program. The scholarships will cover the cost of three national exams required to become a registered respiratory therapist.
¢ Kelsey Consolver, 10, Lawrence, has been chosen as a state finalist in the National American Miss Kansas Junior Pre-Teen Pageant, which was Friday and today at the Overland Park Marriott. The winner will receive $1,000, the official crown and banner, roses and air transportation to compete in the national pageant at Disneyland in California. Kelsey is the daughter of Dan and Ronda Consolver.
