Partly cloudy, cooler than normal today

Got a big summer outdoor project on your to-do list? This looks like the week for it – the weather’s going to be dry and not too hot for the next couple of days.

“Our temperatures are staying below average, not only for today, but for the next few days,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

Today the Lawrence area will see partly cloudy skies and temperatures climbing into the upper 80s, Schack said. There are some clouds moving in from the west, but most of the thunderstorm activity will fire up in north central Kansas and in Nebraska, she said.

“I don’t think we’ll see any showers during the day today,” Schack said.

At 8 a.m., Lawrence’s temperature was 67 degrees with calm winds and a relative humidity of 87 percent.

By late afternoon, the temperature will climb to a high of 87, with southeast winds 3 to 8 mph, Schack said. The average high temperature for this date is 90. The record high for today’s date is 105 degrees, set in 1929.

Overnight, the temperature will drop off to a cool 65 degrees by early Thursday morning. Thursday’s high will be 87, with partly cloudy skies.

More partly cloudy skies are expected Friday. Friday’s morning low will be 66, with the high climbing to 90 degrees by late Friday afternoon.
