Warm, sunny afternoon ahead

Mostly sunny skies are expected this afternoon in Lawrence, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“It looks like a terrific Tuesday forecast and a lot of nice weather through the weekend,” Schack said.

At 9 a.m., it was 68 degrees, with calm winds, partly cloudy skies and an 87 percent humidity. The high is expected to reach 87 degrees by late afternoon with light winds. The average high temperature for this date is 90.

Schack said a line of thunderstorms was developing in central Kansas this morning. But the severe weather won’t make it into eastern Kansas, she said.

“We end up with just the high clouds pushing into our neighborhood. We do break up the clouds and bring back the sunshine late this afternoon,” she said. “We are keeping it dry today, with a lot of sunshine.”

Overnight, the temperature will fall to 63 degrees by early Wednesday morning, she said.

Wednesday’s afternoon high will be 88. There is a slight chance for thunderstorms late on Wednesday, she said.

Thursday’s morning low will be 66, with the high reaching 90 by Thursday afternoon.
