Raiders split pair

? The Lawrence Raiders reached the championship game Monday at the Bartlesville Legion baseball tournament but fell to Fort Smith, Ark., 4-2.

Earlier Monday, the Raiders defeated Emporia, 7-2, in the semifinals.

In the title game, Fort Smith scored three runs in the sixth inning to erase a 2-0 Raiders lead. Brian Heere homered for the Raiders, and Heere and Brett Lisher each had two of the Raiders’ five hits.

Against Emporia, Tommy Fitzgerald and Jake Hoover each went 3-for-4, and Max Ellenbecker (4-1) earned the victory.

The Raiders (21-5) went 3-2 in tournament.

“We played well,” Raiders coach Kevin Tucker said. “The two losses we had were to the best team in the tournament, by far.”

The Raiders also fell to Fort Smith earlier in the tournament.

Hoover, Fitzgerald and Heere were named to the all-tournament team, and Hoover won the home-run derby.

The Raiders will meet Manhattan on Wednesday night at Free State High.
