Area fishing report
Clinton (updated Friday): Water 79 degrees, 3.39 feet above normal pool. Releases should be reduced gradually during the next week as target pool level is reached, barring appreciable runoff. Crappie fishing poor and sporadic. A few are being caught off brush in 12-15 feet of water. Flathead catfish fair using sunfish, nightcrawlers and jigs in the outlet. Channel catfish fair on liver and shrimp. Fish are in four feet of water around willows; some being caught in outlet, too. Drum fair on nightcrawlers in the outlet. Walleye good. Troll crankbaits about 12-feet deep or jig nightcrawlers and leeches off channel areas about 15 feet down. Also, some are being caught in outlet on jigs and nightcrawlers. Note: A 10-inch minimum length limit and 20 daily creel limit for crappie and an 18-inch minimum length limit for wiper went into effect Jan. 1. Five hundred crappie were tagged April 11. Anglers should turn in tags at the state park office.
Perry (updated June 23): Water 78 degrees, 3.9 feet high. Channel catfish, up to five pounds, fair to good. Fish running to dirty water to feed; fish shad sides off windy banks. Sauger fair to good on rocky points on west side toward dam, on crankbaits or twisters. White bass fair on rocky points with twisters or shad-colored crankbaits. White crappie fair on tube jigs or minnows in 8-12 feet of water on brush. Note: Chad about 1/2-inch long and growing fast. State park boat ramps now usable.
Douglas State Lake: (updated Thursday): Channel catfish good using nightcrawlers, poultry liver or stinkbait. Bluegill fair on nightcrawler pieces fished below bobber.
Leavenworth State Lake (updated Thursday): Water 82 degrees, at full elevation. Bluegill good using worms and crickets under bobber around weedbeds and feeders. Channel catfish fair using nightcrawlers, shad, large minnows and stinkbait. Largemouth bass fair using plastic worms, jigs, minnows, spinnerbaits and nightcrawlers. Note: Aeration system is not running due to a breakdown. It should be running sometime this week. Feeders are operational.
Lone Star Lake (updated Thursday): Largemouth bass fair using spinnerbaits, crankbaits and plastic jigs and worms. Bluegill good using worms under bobber and small spinners. Channel catfish good using nightcrawlers, liver, stinkbait or minnows.
