Lawrence was getting some light, wet flakes of snow at 8:30 a.m., with foggy conditions in some low-lying areas, said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. The temperature was 34, keeping the snow from accumulating.

The flurries were expected to be gone by mid morning, as the snow pushes of to the east, she said. Today’s high will be 37 in Lawrence.

Franklin County was included in a Winter Weather Advisory area south of Lawrence, with one to two inches of snow expected in the Ottawa area. The advisory area was in east central Kansas, with as much as 5 inches of snow possible north of Emporia to Lyndon and Ottawa, according to the weather service. Lawrence was to the north of the winter advisory area, Schack said.

“Clouds will continue throughout the day today, even when the snow comes to an end,” Schack said.

Overnight, the temperature will fall to 30, by early Tuesday morning, under cloudy skies and foggy conditions, Schack said.

Tuesday’s high will climb to 39, with cloudy skies continuing. Tuesday night’s temperature will fall to a low of 28 by early Wednesday morning, Schack said.

Wednesdays high will be 43, under partly cloudy skies.

Afternoon highs for the rest of the week are expected to be in 40s, with the 50s by the weekend and sunshine returning.
