Isaac, Gnatzig lift KU to win over Arkansas

? Kansas University’s swimming and diving team improved to 7-5 in dual meets with a 163-133 victory Saturday over the University of Arkansas.

“We were definitely in for a battle today with Arkansas,” KU coach Clark Campbell said. “They came out and were swimming season-best times. I was really proud of how we responded and stepped up to win the meet.”

Senior Miranda Isaac and junior Gina Gnatzig each won two individual events to lead the Jayhawks. Isaac won the 100 (1:05.07) and 200 (2:20.62) breaststroke events. Gnatzig recorded victories in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:53.44 and in the 200 backstroke in 2:04.19. She also teamed with senior Amy Gruber and freshmen Terri Schramka and Anne Liggett to win the 400 freestyle relay in 3:29.37.

Gruber collected an individual victory in the 100 freestyle in 51.27. Schramka won the 100 backstroke in 57.83.

In diving, KU sophomore Shelby Noonan finished second in the three-meter competition, scoring 245.175. Junior Casey Topol led the Jayhawks in the one-meter competition; she finished fourth at 228.525.

“This was a good way to end our road dual meets, and we are looking forward to our dual meet next week against Iowa State,” Campbell said.

The Jayhawks will play host Saturday to Iowa State. The meet will start at 2 p.m. at Robinson Natatorium.
