Eagles spark 76ers to victory

? On an impromptu Philadelphia Eagles appreciation night, Allen Iverson hoped some of that championship magic rubbed off on the 76ers.

“It was something you always want to be a part of,” Iverson said. “That’s the same thing with me. Just being able to try to get to the Finals and win it. That’s the ultimate goal.”

Iverson had 45 points and 11 assists, leading the Philadelphia 76ers to a 106-98 victory over the Miami Heat on Monday night.

Samuel Dalembert added 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Sixers, who took over down the stretch in a matchup of Eastern Conference division leaders.

With Donovan McNabb, Terrell Owens and Brian Westbrook highlighting a group of Eagles watching courtside, the game practically was an afterthought for fans still in a frenzy over the Super Bowl berth.

All the Eagles received rousing standing ovations when introduced — the loudest for McNabb — and chants of “E-A-G-L-E-S!” filled the arena. The Eagles were the reason the game was moved to Monday night — it originally was scheduled for Sunday but was pushed back so it would not conflict with the NFC championship game.

Iverson came over at halftime and hugged McNabb. Owens said he could return from his ankle injury to play in the Super Bowl against New England on Feb. 6 in Jacksonville, Fla.

Shaquille O’Neal scored 24 points, and Dwyane Wade had 17 points and 11 assists for the Heat, who were coming off a 29-point win the night before against New Orleans.

A Super Bowl appearance is about the only thing that could overshadow a matchup of Shaq vs. A.I.

Miami's Shaquille O'Neal (32) is guarded by Philadelphia's Kyle Korver (26) and Samuel Dalembert. O'Neal scored 24 points, but the Heat lost, 106-98, Monday in Philadelphia.

“I kind of got goose bumps with the whole thing,” Iverson said. “I know it’s a great feeling to be a part of that team and just to know you’ve got fans like that.”

Wizards 106, Cavaliers 97

Cleveland — Anthony Peeler made three three-pointers and scored 14 points in the fourth quarter, and Gilbert Arenas scored 30 to help Washington rally past Cleveland. The Wizards, who scored just 30 points in the first half, overcame a 17-point deficit to win for the 10th time in 12 games. They also improved to 3-2 without swingman Larry Hughes, sidelined with a broken thumb. Antawn Jamison added 16 points for the Wizards, who had six players score in double figures.

Bulls 107, Hawks 82

Atlanta — Eddy Curry scored 19 points, five of his Chicago teammates also reached double figures, and the Bulls surged over .500 for the first time in more than two years with a rout of Atlanta. The woeful Hawks actually led 24-23 at the end of the first quarter, but things quickly turned ugly for the home team. The Bulls outscored Atlanta 35-12 in the second period — and the rout was on. Chicago hadn’t been above .500 since winning its first two games of the 2002-03 season.

Timberwolves 86, Pistons 83

Minneapolis — Kevin Garnett had 22 points and nine rebounds, and the backups came up big again for Minnesota in a victory over Detroit. Reserves Wally Szczerbiak (15 points), Eddie Griffin (14 points, 10 rebounds) and Fred Hoiberg (nine points) helped Minnesota win its third straight. Chauncey Billups had 22 points, nine rebounds and six assists against one of the many teams he used to play for, but the Pistons dropped their fourth straight game despite a 51-36 rebounding edge.

Rockets 89, Magic 78

Houston — Yao Ming had 22 points and 10 rebounds, Jon Barry scored 19, and Houston beat Orlando despite playing without leading scorer Tracy McGrady. The Rockets won their third straight and completed a two-game season sweep of the Magic in five days, proving that — at least for now — they got the better of the summer blockbuster trade that fetched them McGrady, Juwan Howard and two other players. McGrady, who scored 27 points in a win at Orlando on Thursday, wasn’t around for the rematch because of a medical emergency in his family. Team officials weren’t sure where he was going or how long he would be away.

Trail Blazers 107, Spurs 99

Portland, Ore. — Damon Stoudamire had 23 points and nine assists, and Joel Przybilla added 17 points and 16 rebounds as Portland snapped a six-game losing streak and won for only the second time in 11 games. Tim Duncan had 24 points and 11 rebounds for the Spurs, who were coming off a 103-73 victory over Sacramento on Sunday night. Tony Parker had 20 points and seven assists.
