Spring-like weather expected today

By this afternoon Lawrence should have some spring-like weather, with lots of sunshine and highs in the upper 50s, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“I guarantee, you’ll like the weather today much better than the weekend,” Schack said, referring to the arctic cold mass and blustery winds that put temperatures well below freezing on Saturday and Sunday.

But it was still cold this morning. At 8:30 a.m., Lawrence’s temperature was 29 degrees, with a 10-mph southwest wind creating a wind chill of 20.

“Grab your coat on the way out,” Schack said. However, by midday temperatures should climb into the upper 40s.

And with sunny skies and an 8-12 mph west wind, by late this afternoon the temperature is expected to climb to a high of 57.

“That’s not a typo,” Schack said. The average high is 40 for this date.

“On Tuesday, it gets even better,” Schack said. Overnight, the temperature will drop to a low of 31 by early Tuesday morning. Tuesday’s high will climb to 59, with some clouds arriving and 5-10 mph west winds, she said.

The rest of the week won’t be as warm, as northerly winds bring in a cold front.

Wednesday’s morning low will be 32, with the high reaching 44 Wednesday afternoon. The remainder of the work week will see morning lows in the 30s and afternoon highs in the 40s, she said.
