Curtis Roy Harper, Lawrence

? Services for Curtis Roy Harper, 92, Lawrence, will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cochran Mortuary in Wichita. Burial will follow at Mission Chapel Mausoleum in Wichita.

Mr. Harper died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at Presbyterian Manor in Lawrence.

He was born Aug. 1, 1912, in Pond Creek, Okla., the son of C.W. and Emma Simpson Harper.

He graduated from Milan High School in 1929.

Mr. Harper was a general contractor for 32 years, and built more than 1,000 homes in Derby, Wichita, Springfield, Mo., and Denver. He built Derby’s first shopping center, El Paso Village, and served on the board of the Derby Water Co.

Earlier in his life, he was a brakeman and conductor on the Santa Fe Railroad.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Consistory and Shrine for 50 years.

He married Gwen McMichael on April 18, 1936, in Wellington. She died in 1996.

Survivors include a daughter, Rita K. Clulo, Woodland Park, Colo.; a son, Jerry L. Harper, Lawrence; a sister, Geraldine Wright, Mountain Grove, Mo.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Children’s Shrine Hospitals — or that mourners follow Mr. Harper’s example by planting a tree.
