Helen Dorothy McCune Walters, Sun City, Ariz.
SUN CITY, ARIZ. ? Services for Helen Dorothy McCune Walters, 87, Sun City, will be at 1 p.m. Jan. 29 at Sunland Memorial Park and Chapel.
Mrs. Walters died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, in Sun City.
She was born Sept. 8, 1917, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of Paul and Ivy McCune. She grew up in Ottumwa and graduated from Ottumwa High School and Ottumwa Business College. She lived in Tucson, Ariz., and San Francisco before moving to Kansas, living in Marquette and then Lawrence, and finally Sun City.
Mrs. Walters was a comptometer operator, bookkeeper and a catalog model for Sears Roebuck Company, first in Ottumwa and later in San Francisco. She also worked for the Kansas University Athletic Department in Lawrence. She and her husband actively supported animal welfare causes and rescued injured or homeless animals. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority.
She married Dr. Byron W. Walters in 1945. He died earlier.
Survivors include a daughter, Candace “Candy” Sue Walters; a stepson, Dr. William E. Walters; a sister, Mary Petersen; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
