Frances H. Rupard, Independence, Kan.

? Frances H. Rupard, 76, Independence, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, in Independence. She was cremated.

She was born March 29, 1928, in Emporia, the daughter of John Stanley and Bernice R. Hagan. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia and a master’s degree in history from Kansas University.

Mrs. Rupard and her husband established KIND radio station in Independence. She taught at Independence Community College, Coffeyville Community College and Kansas University. She also helped train tutors for the Independence Literacy Program. She was a member of Ladies Library and Art Society and was a Girl Scout leader.

She married Nelson Rupard on March 9, 1946, in Kansas City. He died in 2000.

Survivors include a daughter, Christine Rupard Scotten, Glen Cove, N.Y.; two sisters, Barbara MacGregor, Emporia, and Virginia Meeker, Topeka; and a grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. today at Mrs. Rupard’s home, 1108 N. 10th St., in Independence.

The family suggests memorials to the Rupard Scholarship Fund for a student of radio and journalism at Independence Community College, sent in care of the Independent Community College Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 218, Independence 67301.
