Meadowlark 4-H Club had a Christmas celebration Dec. 19. They worked on tray favors for the Douglas County’s Meals on Wheels program at the Lawrence Public Library. Then they went Christmas caroling at Fire Station No. 1. The club attended St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church for 4-H Sunday and after the services went to Mr. Gatti’s for supper.

An informal meeting was called to order by Margaret Pendleton, president. Members answered roll call by naming what they wanted for Christmas. The club voted to participate in the model meeting competition for County Club Days, which will be Feb. 5 at Eudora High School. Members had a gift exchange.

Meadowlark 4-H Club met Jan. 11 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. Margaret Pendleton, president, called to order. Members answered roll call by naming their favorite winter sport. The club sang “Happy Birthday” to members who celebrated January birthdays.

Kay Miller gave the leader’s report. She announced that the club would practice for the model meeting competition at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23 and Jan. 30 in Building 2 at the fairgrounds. Thomas Hinkel and Monica Hinkel were guests. Skylar Evans joined the club. Margaret Pendleton and Kyle Morgison gave project talks on their arts and crafts projects.

The next meeting will be Feb. 8 at the fairgrounds. Members will meet at 6:30 p.m. to make tray favors for the Meals on Wheels program. Members enrolled in the home environment and citizenship projects will give the program. Hosts will be the Heckler and Pratt families.

Lone Star 4-H Club met Jan. 10 with Grant Metsker, presiding. Franklin Johnson led the flag salute. Members answered roll call by stating how late they stayed up on New Year’s Eve.

Mary Berg reported applications for Discover Days Spirit Leaders are due Jan. 25. She announced County Club Days would be Feb. 5 at the Eudora Middle School. The club needs to send one judge to Shawnee County Club Days on Feb. 19. Douglas County is looking for volunteers to serve on the 2005 State Fair committee to design and put together efforts to celebrate the centennial year. The club thanked Sherry Penny, Deb Caffey, Debbie Fishburn and Callie Fishburn for volunteering to serve on the county concession stand committee. Sherry Penny and Deb Caffey also were thanked for volunteering to be day managers at the concession stand.

Marla Metsker gave a parliamentarian talk about amending a motion, addressing the president and seconding a motion. Leslie Queen gave a current event about baseball players who use performance enhancing drugs.

The next meeting will be Feb. 14 at Lone Star Church. It will be Parents Night.
