Evan W. Williams, Manhattan

? Services for Evan W. Williams, 74, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home in Manhattan. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery in Manhattan.

Mr. Williams died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born June 10, 1930, in St. Louis, the son of George D. and Effie Peelle Williams. He grew up in St. Louis, where he attended local schools and graduated from Country Day High School. He attended Harvard University in 1948 and received bachelor’s degrees in sociology and anthropology from Washington University in St. Louis. He received his bachelor’s degree in library science from the University of Illinois. He had been a resident of Lawrence for the past eight years.

Mr. Williams was an assistant professor, librarian and curator of rare books at Farrell Library at Kansas State University for more than 22 years. He retired in 1986. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Manhattan, the Wranglers and Kansas Corral of the Westerners.

He married Susan Fox on Dec. 23, 1956, in Indianapolis. She died May 28, 1968. He was later married to Evelyn Kelner, Carol Johnson and Marilyn Mann. He married Edith Ann Kirk on Nov. 7, 1987, in Wamego. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a brother, Jeffrey B., Baltimore.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday before the service at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to Christian Children’s Fund, sent in care of the funeral home, 1317 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan 66502.
