Gary Eugene Walker

? Services for Gary Eugene Walker, 56, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Oskaloosa United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, northwest of Oskaloosa.

Mr. Walker died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

He was born Feb. 7, 1948, in Lawrence, the son of Emmett Eugene and Ida Mae Puckett Walker. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1969. He had lived in Oskaloosa until moving to Brandon Woods Retirement Community in Lawrence.

Mr. Walker was a custodian for Oskaloosa public schools for many years. He was also a custodian at Kansas University and the Jefferson County Courthouse in Oskaloosa. He had formerly worked as a forklift operator at the Kmart Distribution Center in Lawrence. He also owned and operated Gary’s Lock Smith and Sharpening Service in Oskaloosa.

He was a member of Oskaloosa United Methodist Church and Oskaloosa Lions Club.

He married Verna Mae Stebbins on Oct. 6, 1978, in Oskaloosa. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Darin, Lawrence; three sisters, Barbara Ott and Betty LaRue, both of Wellsville, and Shirley Walker, Lawrence.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Barnett Funeral Home in Oskaloosa.
