Raymond B. ‘J.R.’ Farmer Jr.

Services for Raymond B. “J.R.” Farmer Jr., 62, Eudora, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be in Eudora Cemetery, Eudora.

Mr. Farmer was born July 4, 1942, in Lawrence, the son of Raymond Boyd and Retta Hillebert Farmer Sr.

He was a truck driver for many years. In 1990 he moved to Eudora, where he was a construction framer. He also worked on a farm and was a mechanic.

He married Jean A. Sowers on Sept. 15, 1996, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Todd Simpson, Lewisville, Texas; four daughters, Helen Simpson and Tina Payne, both of Eudora, Peggy Darr, Pomona, and Julie Fennel, Parkville, Mo.; five brothers, Gary, Bill, Ray and Terry, all of Oskaloosa, and Tom, Smyrna, Tenn.; three sisters, Marcia Shughart and Juanita Basinger, both of Lawrence, and Reta Foley, Lecompton; and 13 grandchildren.

A grandson died earlier.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today.

The family suggests memorials to the Raymond “J.R.” Farmer Memorial Fund, sent in care of the funeral home.
