Lillian Gray Burnham

Memorial services for Lillian Gray Burnham, 97, Lawrence, are pending and will be announced by Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

Mrs. Burnham died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005, at her home.

She was born Aug. 10, 1907, in Warren, Ohio, the daughter of Robert L. and Esther L. Brookes Reed. She was trained as a trapeze artist in her teens.

Mrs. Burnham was a homemaker. She was an artist and taught painting for the Lawrence Leisure Time Activities Program and nursing home residents. She taught English to foreign-born wives of those working or studying in Lawrence. She tutored children with special needs who attended Lawrence schools.

She was a member of Quivira Social Club for more than 30 years and an active volunteer for Small World.

She married A. Dwight Burnham. He survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Crispin Burnham, of the home; a daughter, Lillian M. Taylor, Lawrence; a brother, Stanley Reed, Warwick, R.I.; three grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

A grandson died earlier.

The family suggests memorials to Southern Care Hospice, sent in care of the mortuary.
