The Firebirds finally play their home opener at 7 tonight -- weather permitting -- after playing their first six games on the road. ... Free State (5-1 overall, 2-1 Sunflower League) has won three straight. ... FSHS won, 67-48, in its last outing Friday at Shawnee Mission South. Brady Morningstar led Free State with 15 points in that game. ... Olathe East (4-3, 1-1) defeated Shawnee Mission West, 61-49, Friday at home. O-East sank seven three-pointers in that game, including two by Blake Bales, who scored a team-high 15 points. ... FSHS won last year's meeting, 75-65, at O-East.

SM Northwest boys at Lawrence High

LHS (4-2, 1-1) opened the second semester with a 67-61 victory Friday at Leavenworth. Brennan Bechard led the Lions with 16 points and 11 rebounds in that game. ... Tipoff is scheduled for 7 tonight. ... SM Northwest won last year's game, 69-65, in overtime at LHS.
