Finley services

Services for Ruth Irene Tollefson Finley, 97, Topeka, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, Lawrence. Inurnment will be later in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Mrs. Finley died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center, Topeka.

She was born March 27, 1907, near Dunkerton, Iowa, the daughter of Daniel J. and Clara Ella Steele Holdiman.

She attended high school in Waterloo, Iowa, and John Fletcher College in University Park, Iowa.

Mrs. Finley taught grade school in a one-room schoolhouse before her first marriage. She moved to Kansas in 1956 and worked in medical records at Clay County Hospital. She also had been a homemaker and taught Sunday school.

In Kansas, she had lived in Clay Center and Washington before moving to Drury Place in Lawrence in 1996. In 2001 she moved to Topeka, where she lived at McCrite Plaza and Brewster Place.

She married Willard Dwight Tollefson, of Cedar Falls, Iowa. He died in 1948. She married Van C. Finley in October 1962. He died in 1974.

A son, Dwight Willard Tollefson, two grandsons and one great-grandson also died earlier.

Survivors include four sons, Glenn Tollefson and Eldon Tollefson, both of California, Kenneth Tollefson, Seattle, and Allen Tollefson, Lecompton; a stepson, Orville Finley, Colorado; a sister, Erma Cowlishaw, Hudson, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
