Hill’s Pet Nutrition seeks to expand

? Hill’s Pet Nutrition, which expanded Topeka operations in 2002, is planning to spend $30 million on another project.

The company, a unit of Colgate-Palmolive Co., has asked Shawnee County for a tax exemption linked to the expansion of its headquarters and research facilities. The earlier project, for which the company received $15 million in industrial revenue bonds, involved its manufacturing plant.

“We look at this investment as a continued commitment to our ongoing growth and success as a business, while keeping our strong presence in the Topeka community,” Bob Wheeler, chief executive, said.

Doug Kinsinger, president and chief executive officer of the Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce, said the expansion would add 50 to 70 jobs to the company’s local work force of about 900. The company said the jobs would pay an average of more than $50,000 a year.
