Softball stops ASU

? Kansas University’s softball squad ended its weekend junket on a high note Sunday, beating Arizona State, 3-0, in its final game at the Palm Springs Classic.

The Jayhawks posted a 3-2 record at the tourney, improving to 7-7 overall.

KU led 2-0 after a half inning. Freshman Cyndi Duran and junior Destiny Frankenstein singled, then junior Serena Settlemier’s single plated Duran, and Nettie Fierros’ sacrifice bunt scored Frankenstein.

In the sixth inning, junior Ashley Goodrich singled and eventually scored on junior Heather Stanley’s sacrifice fly.

Settlemier (4-2) allowed seven hits and struck out four in the shutout victory.

KU will return to action March 5-6 at the Kay Brechtelsbauer Classic in Carbondale, Ill.
