Buford P. McIver, Jr., Topeka

? Services for Buford P. McIver Jr., 79, Topeka, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Second Presbyterian Church, Topeka. Burial will be in Rochester Cemetery, Topeka.

Mr. McIver died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at Rolling Hills Health Center, Topeka.

He was born Dec. 23, 1925, in Winfield, the son of Buford P. Sr. and Opal E. Hughes McIver. He graduated from Canton High School in 1943.

Mr. McIver served in the Navy during World War II and graduated from Washburn University in 1949 with a business degree in economics. He worked for Hill & Co. Inc. for almost 30 years and retired from DeBacker’s Inc. in 1989.

He was a member of the church for 48 years, as well as a member of the Kansas Historical Society, National Railroad Historical Society, Scottish Rite, Masons and American Legion.

He married Gertrude Mae Jones in 1948 in Lebo. She died June 15, 1998.

Survivors include three daughters, Kathy Blackburn, Wichita, Kris Johnson, Lawrence, and Kelie McIver, Los Angeles; two sons, Scott, Fort Worth, Texas, and Brian, Topeka; and nine grandchildren.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
