Baylor clinches title share

? Yelling, teaching, prodding, pleading, coach Ceal Barry worked every bit as hard Saturday night as she has during her last 22 years on the Colorado women’s basketball bench.

“I don’t know any way to do it other than the way I do it,” she said.

If only there were a few more good players for her to work with — like the kind who play for Baylor — she might not be nearing the end of her illustrious career.

Emily Niemann scored a season-high 20 points to help the sixth-ranked Bears clinch a share of the Big 12 Conference title for the first time with an 84-65 victory over Barry and the overmatched Buffs.

Chameka Scott added 16 for the Bears (23-3, 13-2 Big 12), who won their 10th straight game. At the end, they climbed over the bench and celebrated with the small contingent of parents and friends that followed them from Texas to see a piece of Baylor hoops history.

“I’m a little bit emotional,” Baylor coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson said. “When you achieve a big thing in your coaching career and for your team, you become nostalgic, and you think of all the things that took place to get to this point. I can’t tell you the thoughts going through my mind right now.”

Barry knows the feeling.

Her Buffaloes (8-18, 1-14) lost for the 11th straight time, this one coming two days after she said she would step down at the end of the season.
