The Lawrence branch of the NAACP will be focusing on “Partnership, Presence and Youth” during the upcoming year. Executive branch committee members are: Sonya Johnson, president; Darrell Henderson, first vice president; Donna Bell, second vice president; Ursula Minor, third vice president; Bessie Walker, secretary; Dawn Downing, assistant secretary; and Al Ballard Jr., treasurer. The group meets the second Thursday of each month at the Lawrence Public Library’s gallery room. Anyone is invited to attend.

University Bridge Club announces the winners of its Feb. 19 game. Hosts were Bette and Bud Lukens and Dottie and Hank Miller.

Blue winners were: Don Whitaker, first; Carl Schaake, second; George Bocquin, third; Roy Cropp, fourth; and Marian Davis, fifth.

Pink winners were: Wanda Kring, first; Aileen Bocquin, second; Edna Galle, third; Virginia Williams, fourth; and Jean Whitaker, fifth.

The Wednesday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club’s Feb. 16 game was stratified, used the Howell movement and was directed by Virginia Seaver.

Betty Collier and Don Brennaman were first in A and B. Julia Brooks and Wanda Durbin placed second in A. Patt Radford and Lois Clark were third in A with Phyllis Brownlee and Doris Stubeck in fourth place. Gary Joyce and Mary Joyce placed second in B.

The Monday Evening Duplicate Bridge Club’s game was stratified, used the Mitchell movement and was directed by Virginia Seaver.

The North-South winners were led by Jerry Sloan and Patt Radford who placed first in A, followed by Larry Bodle and Kent McCullough. Russell LaForce and Ilse Steinhardt placed third in A, first in B and first in C.

Helen Huffman and Robert Huffman swept the East-West competition. They placed first in A, B and C. Virginia Seaver and Paul Heitzman placed second in A, followed by Harry Shaffer and Lynn Hui. Grant Sutton and Ann Thompson placed second in B and C.

Lawrence Area Catbackers recently elected officers for 2005. They are: Steve Wood, president; Janna Dunbar and John Fiore, vice presidents; Sheri Wood, secretary; Dick Luman, treasurer; Lyle Hagenbuch and Cynthia Ochs, chairs of the golf tournament/Kickoff Classic; Robin Spencer, membership chair; Amy Walquist and Dorothy Congrove, scholarship chairwomen; and Sue Miller, activities chairwoman.
