Veritas wins at state
Manhattan ? Paul Kempf scored 16 points, and Mark Randtke added 12 in Veritas Christian’s 45-42 first-round Class 2A KCAA state tournament victory over Topeka Cair Paravel on Thursday night at Flint Hills Christian School.
The victory pushed the No. 5-seeded Eagles into tonight’s 7 p.m. second-round game.
Veritas on Thursday defeated a team that had stopped the Eagles twice this season and by 18 points on Tuesday night.
“We made some defensive adjustments,” coach Doug Bennett said. “Traditionally, we play man-to-man. Cair Paravel beat us twice.
“We figured we had to change something, so we went with zone looks that may have kept them off-balance.”
