Concert to benefit scholarship fund

The Lawrence Arts Center’s arts-based pre-school will sponsor a concert Saturday to raise money for its scholarship fund.

The concert will feature Jim Cosgrove and the Hiccups at 11 a.m. in the Arts Center, 940 N.H. The Kansas City musician and his band play music for children of all ages, but this concert is recommended for those ages 2 to 10. His songs focus on the important things in childhood, such as laughing, singing and dancing.

Tickets for the concert can be purchased for $5 at the arts center. Tickets are limited and seating is reserved. For more information, call 843-2787 or go to www.lawrenceartscenter.org.

‘Revolutionary’ art on view at Olive

The creations of Topeka artist William Wesley Marshall will be on display during an impromptu show that opens Friday and runs for one week only at the Olive Gallery.

In the artist’s words, the work is “revolutionary.” Marshall is known in Topeka for his abstracts and portraits of influential black leaders. He was influenced by the spatial illusions of Escher, who inspired him to create three-dimensional, iridescent guided images, like the one pictured above.

An opening reception for “A Guided Imagery Tour” will be 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. today.
