Richard Lewis Barlow, Avilla, Ind.

Services for Richard “Rich” Lewis Barlow, 76, Hudson, were Saturday at Brazzell Funeral Home, Avilla Chapel. Services in Lawrence, Kan., will be announced by the family at a later date. Private burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.

Mr. Barlow died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville, Ind. He moved to Hudson and Kendallville in 1995 from Lawrence.

He was born June 10, 1928, in Burlingame, Kan., the son of Marion Albert and Jessie Ridley Barlow. He graduated from University High School in Lawrence in 1946 and from Kansas University in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts in microbiology.

Mr. Barlow served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a microbiologist and chemist. He was an assistant lab director and retired after 35 years with the Kansas State Board of Agriculture. He was a member of the Big Turkey Lake Assn. and Westside Presbyterian Church in Lawrence.

He married Elizabeth Marie “Betty” Mc Caffrey on Jan. 14, 1955, in Spokane, Wash. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Kathryn Barlow Westmoreland, Cincinnati; two sons, Jesse Louis, St. College, Pa., and Michael Thomas; a brother, Phillip Lee, Lawrence; three sisters, Marie Love, Watsonville, Calif., Normagene Carpenter, St. Louis, and Darlene Lindley, Kurrville, Texas; and four grandchildren.
