Evelyn Belle LeGrand Saler, Lawrence
Services for Evelyn Belle LeGrand Saler, 71, Lawrence will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will follow in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens in Shawnee Mission.
Mrs. Saler died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.
She was born Aug. 16, 1933, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Louis and Adeline Collins LeGrand. She graduated from East High School in Kansas City, Mo., and attended IBM Keypunch School.
Mrs. Saler was a homemaker. She was affiliated with Joel Osteen and Jack Van Impe Ministries and was active in the USO during World War II. She was a singer at the USO Hall in Kansas City, a troop greeter at Union Station, a dance partner at soldier dances, a collector for soldier’s needs and made care packages for soldiers abroad. She also volunteered at the Kansas City Union Mission.
She married Henry Saler on Nov. 11, 1953, in Kansas City, Mo. He died Dec. 7, 1990.
Survivors include three sons, Mark Saler, Topeka, and Steve and Darrin Saler, both of Lawrence; a brother, Louis E. LeGrand, Independence, Mo.; two sisters, Eleanor Shepard, Independence and Delores Lawless, Ruskin Heights, Mo.; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the mortuary.
The family suggests memorials to the Lawrence Humane Society or Children’s Mercy Dialysis Unit, sent in care of the mortuary.
