Semitrailer gets stuck under train bridge

A semitrailer became stuck Monday afternoon in the North Second Street underpass, bringing traffic temporarily to a halt until the truck could be freed.

The driver of the southbound semi was able to back out and turn around and head back to the north. Lawrence Police and Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies assisted the driver by guiding him and stopping north and southbound traffic.

The identity of the trucking company and the driver’s name were unavailable. The semi was pulling a long flatbed trailer carrying what appeared to be two large pieces of fiberglass pipeline.
