Camp Alexander site of turkey seminar

The Flint Hills Gobblers chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation and Wildlife and Parks will sponsor a turkey hunting seminar April 2 at Camp Alexander near Emporia.

Young hunters are encouraged to attend. The spring special youth turkey season, April 8-10, will follow on the heels of this event, and the regular spring turkey season will begin April 13.

Youth essay contest has $100 top prize

The Governor’s Golf and Fishing Classic will be June 16-17 at Milford Reservoir, near Junction City.

Part of this event is an essay contest open to all Kansas youths ages 16 and under. A prize of $100 and a plaque will be awarded to the top female and male essay writers.

The subject is “My Biggest Fish Tale.” Essays must be 500 words or less and should be submitted to Kansas Wildscape Foundation, 1 Riverfront Plaza, Suite 311, Lawrence, 66044, by May 20.

Neosho WA produced record duck numbers

Waterfowl hunters at the Neosho Wildlife Area harvested a record number of ducks this past regular waterfowl season.

During 4,701 hunter trips, duck hunters harvested 9,275 ducks, averaging almost two per hunter on each trip.

Since the first duck season on the wildlife area in 1962, this is the highest harvest — by more than 250 ducks.

Over the past 43 seasons, the wildlife area has averaged 3,797 hunter trips, with an average harvest of 4,342 ducks.
