Baylor survives Iowa St.
Waco, Texas ? Iowa State had the right idea, focusing its defensive attention on Baylor’s two impressive post players and ignoring the poor-shooting guard.
The strategy worked, until Chelsea Whitaker suddenly starting making shots in the second half.
Whitaker scored all of her career-high 20 points after halftime and had two key steals, helping seventh-ranked Baylor beat the No. 19 Cyclones, 82-77, Saturday to stay alone atop the Big 12 Conference standings.
“It was my decision to leave Chelsea Whitaker open. It wasn’t a mistake by the players,” Iowa State coach Bill Fennelly said. “We gambled and lost.”
