Concert to honor LINK anniversary

A benefit concert to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen will be presented by the Lawrence Men’s Chorale 7 p.m. Feb. 25 at First Christian Church, 1000 Ky.

Dean Stetler, director of the choir, said a program of sacred and secular music would be performed. During the evening, volunteers for LINK will be honored.

The Lawrence Men’s Chorale is an a cappella group of 10 men who have been singing together for seven years.

The first half of the program will feature several spirituals, along with an a cappella version of the current hit “You Raise Me Up,” composed by Brendan Graham and Rolf Lovland, and arranged for the chorale by local musician Geoffrey Wilcken.

A performance of the spiritual “Steal Away” will be dedicated to the memory of Michelle Begay, who died in December at Watson Park.

Organist Maxwell Mayse will perform an interlude. His selection will be “The Ash Grove Variations for Organ.” Composed by Dale Wood, this work was written for the 75th anniversary of First Christian’s Church’s Reuter Organ. The Reuter Organ Co. underwrote the commission of the work.

Admission to the concert is free. An offering to support LINK will be taken during the interlude.
